Endowment Fund Helps Students achieve their Full Potential and their College Goals

The JYD Project continues to assist students on their journey to higher learning. Each year we encourage students to pursue a college degree by awarding six (6) lucky students with a one-year scholarship at Montgomery County Community College, Rockville Maryland.  “More than 25,000 students applied for financial aid each year.  The need is great.  Thank you for helping to make a difference in the life of a student.” – La Verne Gordon, Development Associate Director Montgomery College

The Pilot Project

The purpose for creating a PILOT program is to teach players/students to engage, serve and give back to the communities where they live and play.  This program concept is a continuation of the content taught in the JYD Global Citizenship class. Players/Students are introduced to “service learning” and will evaluate the impact created by their individual and collective efforts to make a difference in the community.  The players will track their hours of service and consider new ways to stay connected to those they serve.  This initiative will add a character development component for sport teams and also raise positive community awareness about these young people.  Some of the activities the Players will engage in are as follows:  Feeding the Homeless, Reading to younger students, Volunteering at various community events, Visiting Senior Homes, Visiting Sick Children Hospitals, Assisting at Shelters, Performing Clean-up Project around the Community, etc

Basketball Fitness Camps

“Not Just A Basketball Camp!”  Our camp incorporates TOP LEVEL basketball skills (many of which are instructed by current and retired NBA Players) with important life skill lessons for our future stars.  We have developed a very unique way of using the “Basketball” to teach Discipline, Determination, Dedication and Basketball Basic Fundamentals.  Our unique style and electrifying enthusiasm have participants returning year-after-year.  Many have been with us since 2006 when the camp started in Las Vegas.  Our motto is:  Love for the Game mixed with a Love of Children makes our Camp a WINNER every time!   Come Join our Camp Family!!!

In The News:    We are very excited about our new partnerships with The Communities In Schools NV and Touro University Center for Autism and Disabilities to offer their students special Basketball Clinics during the year,

PROJECT FITness NV

The purpose of PROJECT FITness NV is to keep youth moving during the cooler months and conduct initiatives aimed at encouraging families to remain active and eat healthy. It consists of free monthly events in local parks to encourage kids to play outside; provide them with healthy educational materials and serve them health snacks. This program offers organized fun activities such as, volleyball, kickball, basketball etc. This keeps children exercising after our summer camps and continues to build their fitness skills

Project Motivation

Project Motivation provides elementary, middle and high school students Motivational Assemblies and other supportive activities using celebrity keynote speakers whose goal is to convince students to stay in school, graduate and go to college.  The JYD Project has been conducting assemblies in schools since 1997 and in 2012 partnered with three nonprofits; GEAR-UP, Communities In Schools (CIS) and the National Basketball Retired Players Assoc. of Las Vegas to enhance this program.  CIS and GEAR-UP both have extensive experience and well-established relationships with the staff and students in the targeted school where we will provide “Project Motivation”.  This knowledge will prove an asset when we collect the necessary data to track progress and measure outcomes.  The Project will visit over 30 schools per year and speak to over 9,800 students of minority backgrounds, which is reflective of the community we predominantly serve. The demographics consist of 55% Hispanic, 17% Black, 13% White, 8% Asian/Pacific Islander, 1% Native American, and 6% Multi-ethnic; the gender breakdown is 51% male and 49% female. Financial Literacy

This program was established in 1997 supported by financial booklets designed by Johnnie Williams III, and sponsored by Fannie Mae to educate high school students on financial skills. It has grown to become the "Chase Your Dream" three-day workshop.  Students learn financial literacy components such as check writing, credit, bank accounts and investments. The program help students identify their financial goals and teach resume writing to channel their attention on the importance of making well-informed financial choices.  The program is very influential and has currently been sponsored by JP Morgan Chase in New York City for the Brooklyn based Bushwick Leadership Academy for the past (12) years. It is the Project’s hope to partner with one of the local banks and expand this program to Nevada
